Virginia Lou Bryant Slade, 84, passed away peacefully in Jackson, Mississippi on Saturday, May 1, 2021. Born November 9, 1936 in Dripping Springs, Arkansas to James Walter and Tishie Lou Cook, she was a lifelong and devoted Christian. She displayed true joy. She had been married to Bobby Ray Bryant for 28 years at the time of his passing in 1981, and she spent several of her later years in the loving company of her husband, Leonard Slade.
Beloved by all who knew her as Mother, Grandmother, Mema, Sister, Aunt, cousin, and friend. Virginia's many hobbies included gardening, sewing, arts and crafts, country and gospel music, board and card games, camping, and playing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. And, as her family and friends know, her sweet tooth and her love for her dog, Abby, was second to none.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Bobby Bryant and Leonard Slade; a son, Larry Bryant, a sister, Irene Seabolt; two brothers, Raymond and Eugene Cook; and several other much-loved family members.
She is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Jeanine and Ward Eagleton of Spiro, Oklahoma and Kimberly and Michael Barnes of Clinton, Mississippi; five grandchildren and their partners and eleven great-grandchildren, Christopher and Amber Bryant (Sarah and Hannah), Bobby Dustin Bryant (Destin and Miracle), Amy Chapman (Liberty, Lakyn, and Canyon), Timothy and Sommer Johnston (Madix, Braxtyn, Jensyn, and Elijah), and Lisa Beck and Zachary King; three bonus grandchildren, Lauren Barnes and Daniel Mattingly (Rick, Hayden, and Skylar), Alison and Kirsten Langley, and Zach Barnes; and several nieces and nephews.
Going Home Celebration will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 14 at Hall Cemetery in Natural Dam led by Reverend Eddie Blankenship.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Caring Days, a day program for adults with Alzheimer's and other memory disorders at www.caringdays.org/ways-to-give.
