Mary Alice Reed

Mary Alice Reed, 84, of Alma, passed away Sunday, January 8, 2023 in Van Buren. She was born April 12, 1938 in Alma to the late Lewis and Rose (Sanders) Gregory, Sr. She had worked for the Alma School District for 30 years. She was one of the oldest members of her church, a Sunday school teacher to many children, and a singer and piano player. She enjoyed gardening and quilting.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Kathleen Squires; and four brothers, Frank Gregory, Jr., Tommy Gregory, Bill Gregory, and Darrell Gregory.

She is survived by her husband, James Rufus Reed of the home; a daughter, Patti Bowles and husband Byron of Alma; a sister, Velma Allenbaugh of Van Buren; three grandchildren, Jeremy Bowles (Tasha), Greg Bowles, and Lara Thompson (Cordel), all of Alma; four great-grandchildren, Ali, Ben, Evan, and Ella; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 12, 2023 at Freedom Free Will Baptist Church in Alma with interment to follow at Gregory Cemetery, under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren, AR.

Pallbearers will be Damon Gregory, Steve Gregory, Keith Gregory, Kirk Gregory, Farrell Gregory, Ryan Herbert, and Mike Faucher. Honorary pallbearers will be Preston Poole, James Horton, Kevin Gregory, Paul Summerhill, Paul Toon, Larry Gregory, Brandon Gregory, Billy James Johnston, David Dean, and all her other nieces and nephews.

The family will visit with friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 11, 2023, at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home, 4100 Alma Highway, Van Buren, AR.
