James “Jay” Hurd, 83, of Dyer, passed away Monday, August 10, 2015 at his home. He was born September 3, 1931 in Dyer to the late Thurman and Nora Hurd. He was a retired carpenter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Sheilla Jane Smith; a son-in-law, Larry M. Smith; a sister, Iva Lee Nuckles; and a brother, Thurman Hurd, Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Melba of the home; a daughter, Alta Wilson and husband Z.C. of Bella Vista; three grandchildren, James Hamilton and wife Tracy of Dallas, Lynnetta Penson and husband Travis of Fayetteville, and Andrea Wilson-Woods and husband Corey of Burbank, CA; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral service is 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 14, 2015 at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Chapel with committal at 1:30 p.m. at Dyer Cemetery, under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers will be Andrew Lewis, Ronnie Hatley, Donnie Wise, James Hamilton, Johnnie Dickerson, and Corey Woods.
