Frederick D. O’Malley, 79, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2023 at his home in Upland, California after battling Parkinson’s Disease for several years. Fred was born on December 16, 1943 in Bismarck, North Dakota to his loving parents Frederick O’Malley and Mary Janice Barry. He moved to Worthington, Minnesota as a child and there met his wife, Kathleen Kellen, as a childhood friend. They both graduated from High School and Junior College in Worthington, before Fred got his Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Minnesota. He married the love of his life Kathleen in 1965. Fred and Kathy raised their family in Claremont, California but they also lived in Florida, Minnesota, Texas, and Michigan. Fred worked in the Aerospace and Defense Industry as a program manager with Honeywell, Hughes
Aircraft, & Raytheon over 35 years. He ended his career working at JPL in Pasadena after relocating back to California. Fred enjoyed his retirement years and served as a Volunteer for the Claremont Police Department for many years. Fred and Kathy enjoyed traveling and visited many places throughout our country and abroad, as well as many visits to Minnesota to visit family and friends. More than anything, Fred just loved spending as much time as possible with his friends and family, always enjoying good food and a nice glass of wine. Fred is survived by his loving wife Kathy, who he loved so much for more than 60 years. He was always so proud of his 3 children, Patrick (Shelley), Michael (Anita), and Shannon (Rick), along with his sister Judith. He was blessed with two grandchildren, Kellen and Reagan, who he loved spending time with and attending their activities. Fred loved his extended family, which included Kathy’s sisters Marlys and Dave, Elaine and Mark, Jan and Maury and several nieces and nephews. Fred was the life of the party, always had a positive personality, a great quip or sarcastic comment, always generous, thoughtful and concerned about everyone’s well being. He was one of a kind to so many friends and his entire extended family. Words cannot express how much he will be missed by so many. Fred was a dedicated Catholic, being a member of Our Lady of the Assumption, Claremont and Saint Anthony’s, Upland, for many years. A private family burial service is being planned. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.stonefuneralhomeupland.com for the O'Malley family.
