Pablo Martínez, born in San Antonio on June 29, 1928, died in his hometown on October 27, 2017, at the age of 89. He grew up in San Antonio’s near-West Side, where he was a proud graduate of Lanier High School. Soon after graduating, he became a prize-winning printer and lithographer in a career that would span more than 45 years. An avid reader, during his retirement Pablo read a novel every week. For 26 years, he was a member of the Blue Bird Auxiliary volunteering regularly at Central Methodist Hospital and Methodist TexSan Hospital. Pablo’s deep and abiding interest in history, art, and culture led to his continuing studies at UNAM and San Antonio College. A man of faith, Pablo found a spiritual home with the congregation of Agudas Achim. He believed in the therapeutic possibilities of nature, as demonstrated by his love of yardwork and gardening. Survivors include his two children, Pablo Miguel Martínez, (Henry M. Cantú); Cristina Elisabet Slaughter and devoted friends, James L. Slaughter and Chris Jansen, San Antonio, Texas. Also left to cherish his memory are many friends. Pablo was preceded in death by his wife, Blanca Perales Martínez, and his parents, Macedonia Rivas Martínez and Genaro J. Martinez.
Per Pablo’s wishes, no service will be held. He will be cremated and have his ashes scattered in his beloved West Side. Memorial contributions in his name can be made to Inman Christian Center, 1214 Colima St., San Antonio, Texas 78207. Please sign the guestbook at www. colonialuniversal.com
