MSgt. Lester "Les" O. Letcher U.S. Air Force, Retired

MSgt. Lester “Les” O. Letcher, U.S. Air Force, Retired passed away on Tuesday September 6, 2011 at the age of 71. He was born on May 17, 1940 in Luverne, Minnesota to Everett and Viola Letcher and leaves wife Karon married September 11, 1965 in Sioux Falls SD, children Dale, Kaye, and Shirley, and grandchildren Kelsey, Megan, Hunter, and Rylee. Les is survived by siblings Elaine, Noelan, Patty and Don and will be joining siblings Delores, Carol and Jimmy as well as his beloved cocker spaniel Princess.

A visitation will be held on Monday September 12, 2011 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM with a funeral service on Tuesday September 13, 2011 at 10:00 AM at Colonial Funeral Home, 625 Kitty Hawk, Universal City, Texas 78148. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with full military honors. Those of you who knew Les knew that he loved life. He was never idle and was passionate about so many things. Les very proudly remembered his service to our country in Vietnam and through his Air Force career - American flags always prominent on his hats, shirts, and house. Les loved his family and took great joy in his grandchildren and playing an active role in their lives. His interests over time included bowling, darts, poker, golf and was a dedicated fan of Nascar and College Football. You will be hard pressed to find a man that took more joy in the discovery of finding a quarter on the ground, a bargain at a garage sale, or a golf ball in the brush. On your next round of golf look for any loose balls labeled “LOL”, rest assured Les found the balls you knocked into the rough while looking for his! Most of all, Les loved to laugh and to make other people laugh. Family, friends, acquaintances, and strangers alike got to experience his lifelong humor. He touched on many lives with his readiness to smile and joke around. Our world will sorely miss this irrepressible good humor and Les will be greatly missed by family and friends.
