Our precious mother Jean passed peacefully on Thursday, July 21, 2022, with her family by her side. She has passed to the Kingdom of Heaven with Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and reunited with her husband Bill. She devoted her life to her husband and children and instilled a tremendous sense of family, faith, and kindness to all she encountered. She never desired to be the center of attention however she was a remarkable and strong woman.
Jean was born on November 6, 1934, in Harrison, New Jersey to Pasqualina and Rocco Femano. Jean was the youngest of their four daughters. She also has six brothers. She spent her childhood full of laughter and happiness in the Harrison Gardens until her family moved to her childhood home in Kearny, NJ. In 1958 while visiting her oldest sister Rose and her husband Steve Sulley at Hamilton Field near San Francisco, she was introduced to a young airmen named William "Bill" Allen. Jean and Bill fell in love and were joined in Holy Matrimony on April 25, 1959, at St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Kearny, New Jersey. She and Bill quickly became favorites of their many nieces and nephews due to their zeal for life and radiant love for one another. She provided the upbringing of their four sons while Bill was stationed away from home during the Vietnam War and temporary duty assignments while serving in the United States Air Force. Jean and Bill raised their sons with great love and devotion and were instrumental in instilling the importance of an education while ensuring that Family, God, and Country were part of their son's values. They celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary in April of 2017 before Bill passed away in December of 2017.
Jean cherished the time with her family and hosted the family holiday celebrations while providing delicious Italian, New England, and traditional meals. She was always sure to see as many of her grandchildren's activities and achievements because they were truly the joy of her life. With six brothers and four sons, she was destined to become a sports fan. When she was younger, she would provide play by play detail of New York Yankees baseball games to her older brothers while discussing potential lineup changes for the Yanks. She particularly enjoyed rooting for the San Antonio Spurs and the Texas A&M Aggies. Through the years, Jean and Bill traveled together on road trips by car and RV, guided bus tours abroad and sailing cruises. She always delighted in seeing the fall foliage of Bills childhood home in Vermont. In the later years of her life, she enjoyed sitting at the kitchen table and serving up goodies while playing cards with her grandchildren.
Jean leaves behind her four sons Guy, Mike, Ken and John and their families. Through the years, she was blessed with daughters-in-law with whom she shared a mutual love and adoration. They blessed Jean and Bill with twelve grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and a fifth great grandchild on the way. She also leaves behind her extended families of the Femano's from New Jersey and the Allen's and O'Neil's from Vermont.
Jean was a gracious person who leaves behind many joyous memories as a wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She will always be in our hearts and memories, continuing to bring us joy. We are all comforted in knowing that she has been reunited with Bill in the house of Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
