Elizabeth “Betty” Marie Butts, aged 91, passed away in Universal City, Texas on December 18, 2024. Born July 3, 1933, in Fort Pierce, Florida, she was the daughter of Charlie L. Strickland and Florence Sutton. Betty graduated from Saint Lucie County High School in 1951 and graduated from St. Mary’s School of Nursing in West Palm Beach in 1954.
After meeting the love of her life, Col. Clinton E Butts, they married on June 4, 1955 at St Anastasia Catholic Church. Her journey as a proud mother and military wife took her around the world to various locations in the United States, Spain, and Germany, before settling in Universal City, TX.
Nothing brought Betty more joy than being at the center of her large, loving family; whom she hosted for Sunday-night meals and special occasions for more than 40 years. Known affectionately as Nana (or S'Nana during holidays), Betty loved to cook, read, enjoyed everything Hallmark, and was delighted by a quick trip to the casino with her daughters.
Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband, Col. Clinton E. Butts; her devoted son, Daniel W. Butts; and her beloved brothers, Robert D. Strickland, William A. Strickland, Terry S. Strickland, and Teddy S. Strickland.
She is survived by her daughters, Deborah L. Bosse (David) of College Station and Rebecca A. Wingert of Schertz; her sons, Stephen C. Butts (Debbie) of San Antonio and David A. DiMatteo (Mitch) of Austin. Referred to as “Nana’s Angels”, her ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren: Beth, Mandy, Becca, Wes, Angie, Clint, Stephanie, Kim, Steve, Elizabeth, Nathan, Ava, Zodia, Parker, Orion, Ariel, and Reagan. She is also survived by her brothers, James C. Strickland of Canterbury, New Zealand, and Adrian M. Strickland of Fort Pierce, Florida.
Betty will be greatly missed and loved forever.
