Daddy loved Sallie Ann cookies.  This was a Christmas time cookie that Granny use to make.  He wasn't crazy about sweet stuff.  These cookies are not sweet so to say.  They are a spice cookie made with nutmeg and cinnamon.  After Granny left us I took over making the Sallie Ann's for Daddy and Justin.  I had to make at least three batches of these cookies at Christmas time because Daddy and Justin would fight over them.  They would tease about weighing each batch to make sure everything was even.  It made me giggle every year with their good natured ribbing.  I'd always call him and ask if he could smell them when I put them in the oven.  I didn't have the heart to make them this year.  So many things I'm going to miss.

Don and Linda  with us and family when we visited san Antonio  in June for our wedding.  He always made us welcome when we visited  them .  

  I have a lifetime of memories to share about my Dad. Many of the greatest moments in my life have involved time with him.  Of course I wish we had spent more time together but cherish all the time we had.
  One of my favorites was when I shot my 1st deer.  We were in the blind & out comes this beautiful doe.  She came straight to the feeder but wouldn't settle.  As I watched her through the scope Dad was in my ear urging patience & encouraging me to remain calm & that she would settle to eat.  He was right, BUT she settled right behind the feeder leg.  He taught us to shoot for the heart, but this doe had the feeder leg covering hers.  After several minutes Dad told me that I needed to shoot or to take a break before the Buck Fever takes hold.  I told him again the feeder leg is in the way, but I squeezed the trigger anyway.
  Well that deer jumped about  to the top of the feeder and then bolted.  Dad & I both figured that I missed, having been talking and starting to breathe hard when I pulled the trigger, but we waited about 30 mins & he said let's go take a look.  I was doubtful & sure that I had let him down by missing, but gave in & walked out to the feeder with him.
  We found exactly what I thought we would, nothing but a torn up hole through the feeder leg.  I was dejected but Dad started walking out into the brush.  I followed wondering why he was wasting his time looking for a deer that didn't exist, but then I saw what he saw, blood.
  Long story short we tracked that deer about 100 yards & found it. It was a large doe, over 100 lbs, but Dad carried it back to the truck by himself as I floated on a cloud next to him.
  His belief in me,  his patience & understanding are hallmarks of his parenting and mentoring.  He was never short or cross with me even if I deserved it.  He accepted my decisions with praise whether i succeeded or failed.  He always had great advice & shared his opinions but never forced them.  He was my hero.

Don is survived by his wife, Linda Harvey Sadler; children, Dawna Haug and husband Kevin Haug Sr., Justin Sadler and fiancé Shanna Limas, Brian Strickland, Heather Combs, and Michael Strickland; siblings, Barbara Sadler Stautzenberger and husband Emery Stautzenberger; grandchildren Kiera, Kaylee, Kevin, Jenna, and Bishop. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother.
