William T. Roberts, age 95, of Union, New Jersey passed away on Saturday, October 23, 2021. William was born August 8, 1926 in Brooklyn, New York.
William was preceded in death by his spouse Alma Roberts; his daughter Barbara Voorhees and his son-in-law James Voorhees.
William moved to Union, NJ when he was five. He married his wife Alma on July 3, 1948. He served in the Navy during WWII with a tour in Africa, and was a member of Connecticut Farms Presbyterian church for over 60 years.
During his lifetime he traveled the world with the Golden Age Club in Union, which his wife Alma had run until her passing in 2009. He also enjoyed visiting the shore each summer.
He never allow the grass to grow under his feet.
William loved life and his family. He also loved his trains, the Mets baseball team and puzzles. He was a little league coach and was also known as Mr. Fix It. He loved to tinker and figure out how to fix things. He also loved to help people and enjoyed waving at the kids and parents on their way to the Washington School each day. He had a great sense of humor and was always a kidder so much that he was a smartass till the day he died.
He worked at many odd jobs in his early years like a golf caddy and delivering newspapers. He loved being a truck driver but quit when his daughter was born. He worked for Jacobson Tool and Dye. He also worked for Union Hospital as an ambulance driver for METS, and as Maintenance Worker at St Barnabas Health Care System at their Morris Ave & Chestnut Street location.
William is survived by his granddaughter Melissa Cunningham (Randy), along with several nieces, nephews and relatives.
A private graveside service for William will be at Graceland Memorial Park., 1900 Galloping Hill Rd, Kenilworth, NJ 07033. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to your favorite charity in Williams name.
