A funeral service will be held at St. Mary & St. Bishoy Coptic Orthodox Church, 400 East St. Georges Ave., Linden, N.J., at 10 a.m. on Saturday May 10, 2014. Entombment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery in Linden. The family will receive their friends at McCracken Funeral Home, 1500 Morris Ave., Union, N.J., on Friday, May 9, 2014, from 5 to 8 p.m.
Dr. Kamell was professor emeritus of New Jersey City University in Jersey City, N.J., serving as the chair of the Division of Social Studies and the Department of Sociology/Anthropology and the director of International Studies. Dr. Kamell received his Ph.D. honors from Rennes University in France and D.Sc. from Lausanne University, Switzerland.
Dr. Kamell authored many books, monographs, and articles in French, English, and Arabic in the field of psychology, education, philosophy, aesthetics, and Middle East studies. His high educational and scholarly standards have served as a beacon for students as well as colleagues.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Leila Kamell, and his devoted son, Dr. William Kamell. He is survived by his devoted son, Dr. Ralph and his wife, Jocelyne Kamell, and his dear daughter-in-law, Sylvia Kamell. He is also survived by eight loving grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Beni Suef Orphanage for Girls, payable to The Egyptian American Christian Association, P.O. Box 24114, Jersey City, N.J. 07304.
