Louis R. Rossi, 87, of Belleville passed away on Monday, August 24th. Born in Newark, he was a WWII veteran serving in the Army Band in Ft. Belvoir, VA. Earning a degree in accounting from Rutgers University, he was the office manager of the PSEG Testing Laboratory in Maplewood, retiring in 1990 after 40 years of service.
He served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation and was a member of the American Society for Testing and Materials serving on the Laboratory Accreditation Criteria Committee. He also was a delegate to the International Laboratory Accreditation Conference developing standards for accrediting engineering laboratories.
A trained jazz musician, Lou played saxophone and clarinet with the band Pappy’s Banjo Boys and with the Maplewood Swingtown Band. He was a proud member of the Maplewood Rotary Club where he served as president and later as treasurer for 25 years.
He is survived by his son Mark and wife Kathy, son Louis and wife Elena, daughter Janet Brydon and husband Troy and grandchildren Catherine and Gabrielle Rossi and Tyler Brydon. He was predeceased by his wife Jean Vinciguerra Rossi in 2008.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, August 27th from 4-8 PM at McCracken Funeral Home, 1500 Morris Ave., Union. A funeral mass will be offered on Friday, August 28th at 10:30 AM at Holy Spirit Church, Union. Cremation will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Maplewood Rotary with the notation “Contribution Funds”, PO Box 1099, Maplewood, NJ 07040.
