Jean M Hopler, beloved mother, family member and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on October 12, 2024, at the age of 71 after a short battle with frontotemporal dementia (FTD). Known for her warm spirit, high energy and zest for life, she touched the hearts of everyone who knew her.
Born in Amityville, NY, to the late William and Ruth (nee Sheehan) Langdon, Jean grew up in Levittown and attended Levittown Memorial High School. She met her husband Harold L. Hopler, Jr, at a family wedding in 1970, married in 1972 and lived in Irvington, NJ before moving to Roselle Park, NJ in 1973, where they shared more than four decades of love and partnership.
Jean worked a variety of jobs throughout her career, including at Rickels, the Cranford Diner, and with Dr. Chang, DMD, as well as most recently with Dr. Kleiman, DMD. She was happily retired at the time of her passing.
Jean was a loving wife, mom, sister, and daughter who cherished her time with family and friends. She had a close bond with her siblings and sons, eagerly anticipating their visits and calls. She loved to recall stories of her parents and siblings while growing up.
Jean's favorite role was undoubtedly that of a mother. She poured her heart and soul into raising her sons, Harold and Daniel, always prioritizing their happiness and well-being. Jean created a nurturing environment filled with love, laughter, and support, fostering strong bonds with her children that they cherish to this day.
She was deeply involved in their lives, from attending school and sporting events to celebrating milestones and simply enjoying everyday moments together. Jean loved teaching valuable life lessons, always encouraging her sons to pursue their passions and dreams. Her enthusiasm for family gatherings meant that holidays and special occasions were filled with warmth and joy, creating cherished memories they would carry with them. She was not just a mother but also a confidante and friend, always ready to listen and provide guidance. Her love extended to her nieces, nephews, and grand dog (Copper) showering them with gifts and attention, making them feel just as special.
Jean had a playful spirit and a deep love for Disney, which was beautifully reflected in her style of dress and home decor. She often wore vibrant, whimsical outfits featuring her favorite characters, bringing a touch of magic to everyday life. Her home was a cheerful haven filled with Disney-themed decorations, from classic memorabilia to charming accents that made it feel like a fairytale. Children loved to stop by the ‘Mickey Mouse house’ and she loved dressing up in character for Halloween.
Known for her impressive stamina, Jean had a vibrant passion for music and dancing, even participating in Zumba classes. She frequently attended live concerts, where her energy was infectious, drawing others into her joyful spirit. On the dance floor, she was a lively presence, always moving to the rhythm and encouraging those around her to join in the fun.
She also loved shopping, where she embraced the joy of finding treasures and visiting her friends at Target, Sam’s Club, Costco, Dollar Tree, Kohl’s, etc. for whom she often brought treats and refreshments.
Family vacations at Disney and other amusement parks, and cruises were cherished highlights of Jean's life, allowing her to create joyful memories with her loved ones.
An avid gardener, Jean lovingly nurtured her garden and frequently visited Gasko’s Family Farm. She was always willing to offer gardening advice to her neighbors or lend a helping hand. Her passion for Disney and its characters shone through in her garden, which featured whimsical decorations.
She is survived by her sons, Harold L. Hopler III and partner Linda Cooney and Daniel Hopler and wife Shannon. Also grieving her loss are her brother William Langdon and wife Judith, sister-in-law Diane Langdon, sister Barbara Bragg, brother-in-law Robert Koleman, brother Raymond Langdon and wife Gloria, sister Deborah Langdon, sister-in-law Karen Komisar as well as four nieces, seven nephews, and their spouses and children.
She is predeceased by her beloved parents, her husband, brother Robert Langdon, and sister Lynda Kohlmann.
She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for her infectious laughter, generous heart, and the joy she brought into the lives of others.
A visitation for Jean will be held Saturday, October 19, 2024, at 1:00 PM where friends and family are invited to share their memories and honor the beautiful legacy she leaves behind.
