He was a devoted husband and a wonderful father. He kept his sense of humor and concern for his wife and daughters until the very end of his life.
Richard was born on August 7, 1938, to Ruth and Frank Kronenberg in Chicago, Illinois. He earned an M.D. in 1963 from Northwestern University Medical School and then interned at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, where he met his wife, Carole. He then served as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force Medical Corp for two years. Eventually, he became a Professor of Medicine and Director of the Pulmonary Division of the University of Minnesota.
He came to Texas in 1984 to become the Chairman of the Department of Medicine at the University of Texas Health Center at Tyler. He earned an M.B.A. At LeTourneau in 1995. He then became the Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs for Mother Frances Hospital and, later, the Senior Vice President for Clinical Transformation at the Trinity Mother Frances Health System before retiring in 2011. He became a volunteer Pulmonary Physician at Bethesda Health Clinic in retirement.
Richard was predeceased by his parents, Ruth and Frank Kronenberg. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Carole Kronenberg; his daughters, Karen and Brenda Kronenberg; his daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Tim Dearmond; and his three grandchildren, Alexander, Elizabeth, and William Dearmond.
