Michael Kenneth Cathey passed away December 30, 2013 after a long struggle with health problems. Mr.Cathey was living in Boulder, Colorado at the time of his passing, seeking advanced medical assistance.
Michael was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on May 15, 1969. His youth was spent in a variety of places including the Azores Islands, Charleston, South Carolina, San Antonio and East Texas. He graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder and worked in the Information Technology field in Dallas, specializing in databases.
Mr. Cathey traveled extensively, visiting Europe, Hawaii, Colombia, the Panama Canal, the Bahamas, Mexico and many places in the U.S. He was an avid chess player winning the Texas Amateur State Chess Championship and placed second in blitz chess at the World Open. He was a devoted family man and father who will be remembered for his giving nature.

Graveside service will be at 11 am on Saturday, January 11, 2014, in Rose Hill Cemetery in Tyler with Rev. Ron Byrd officiating.
