A proud Veteran, he joined the United States Navy in 1943, serving aboard the USS Nevada. Upon returning home, he married his high-school sweetheart, Frances Jean Tanner, on November 1, 1946. The young couple settled in Dallas, where Mr. Glass began his career in the service station business for Phillips 66. The family moved to Tyler in 1960 to build the Phillips 66 Service Stations in East Texas. He was an avid hunter and fisherman all of his life and enjoyed travelling to Canada and other parts of the United States searching for the best fishing spots and hunting big game. He also devoted much of his spare time to his farm and cattle.
L.N. is preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Frances, his parents, one brother and two sisters. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Jo Ann and Bill Taylor of Tyler, Son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Karon Glass of Tyler; Grandchildren - Sarah Alvey and husband Derric of Lindale; Emily Taylor; Jeremy Taylor and wife Alicen; Todd Glass and wife Kenda; Jessica Taylor and Holli Shull and husband Collin, all of Tyler; and his special great grandchildren – Logan, Addi, Jaydee, Cord, Jolee, Kacee, Annie, Gage, Henry, Charlotte and Lucy.
A private family service will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery on a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Hospice of East Texas or a charity of your choice.
