On Wednesday, August 31, 2011, Jerline (Jerrie) Truss Rice, 87, of Tyler left the trials of this life behind to join the love of her life in the presence and in worship of their Heavenly Father. Jerrie was born on January 20, 1924 in Clarendon, Texas to Charles Edward and Carrie Collins Truss.
Jerrie married James William Rice on December 2, 1939 and together they lovingly raised three sons, James David Rice, Gerald Duane Rice and Richard Allen Rice and shared love, laughter, good times and bad for 62 years. Now, after 9 years, those loved ones left behind are so extremely grateful to the Lord that He let them be together again and her heart is no longer breaking.
Jerrie was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and served faithfully for many years supporting our country’s servicemen and their families as a lifetime member of the Navy Mothers’ Clubs of America.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, Gerald Duane Rice, five brothers, Carlton, Floyd, Samuel, Olen, and Raymond Truss, one sister, Pauline Truss Tindall. Survivors include two sons, James(Cheryl) Rice, Richard(Ivy) Rice, both of Tyler; five granddaughters, Debra Howes of Maryville, TN, Melonie (Jim) Cox of Hewitt, TX, Melissa (Anthony) Railsback, Tyler, Carrie (Eloy) Ramirez, Troup, Laura (Ryan) Rowley, Tyler; three grandsons, Jerry (Kristin) Howes, Winchester, CA, Wm. David (Celina) Rice, Crossroads, TX and Rick (Wendy) Rice, Little Elm, TX; seventeen great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services are under the direction of Tyler Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8:00 pm on Friday, September 2 and graveside service will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, September 3.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Navy Mothers’ Clubs of America.
