Services for James C. Surber Jr., age 74, of Tyler are scheduled for 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, May 16th, 2018 at University Church of Christ. Neal Thurman will be officiating and the burial will be at Williams Cemetery.
He went to be with the Lord on May 13th, 2018 in Tyler, Texas.
James was born on September 16th, 1943 in Temple, Texas to the late James C. and Ollie Belle Surber. He grew up in Killeen, Texas and attended Tarleton State University and North Texas University. He served as an E4 Sargent in the Army in Korea. James coached at Lake Dallas, Greenville, and Chapel Hill High Schools. He also served as an assistant principal at Chapel Hill and principal at West Rusk High School. After retiring he served as the Human Resources Director at Azleway Boys Ranch. He has also served as a deacon of University Church of Christ for many years with a great love in his heart for his brothers and sisters in Christ, especially the youth.
He was preceded in death by his parents and will be survived by his wife Sue , son Jim Surber, daughter Angela Ryan and son in law Darin Ryan.
Pallbearers will be Bob Forester, Jacob Forester, Spencer Thurman, Gavin Shepard, Wayne Shepard, Jeremy Taylor, David Tizcareno, and Alfredo Tizcareno. Honorary Pallbearers will be James Bland and Richard Smith.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at Lloyd James Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to University Church of Christ youth fund or Hospice of East Texas Home Place.
