He graduated from San Antonio Vocational Technical High School in 1940. Perry was senior class president; he lettered in tennis and track. Perry joined the Army Air Corps on September 15, 1942, and served proudly as a radio repairman on aircraft equipment in the 898th Signal Company, 81st Air Depot during the Asiatic Pacific Theater in WWII. He was awarded the Bronze Star.
After leaving the service honorably, Perry earned his Bachelor of Business Administration with a specialty in accounting from St. Mary's University in San Antonio in 1950. During this time he married the love of his life, Dorothy D. Lomax; they were married for 64 years. After completing his degree, Perry accomplished a long, successful career at Monroe Systems for Business and earned the President's Award in 1970. After retirement, Perry worked as an assistant vice president at Southside Bank. Perry was also co-owner of East Texas Barber College with W.C. Edwards.
Perry was a 54-year 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Shriners. In his spare time, Perry was a ham radio operator (call sign N5MYJ) and a member of the Tyler Amateur Radio Club. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and a member of the East Texas Trailer Club. Perry also loved playing golf and scored a hole in one at Briarwood Country Club in Tyler. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Tyler for 52 years and attended the radio Bible class.
Perry Lomax is survived by his children: Dr. Penny Reddell and husband Bill, of Double Oak, Julie Wuest and husband Kurt, of Rowlett, David P. Lomax, of Tyler; grandchildren, Robert Reddell, of Houston, Emily Foster and husband Glenn, of Brownsboro, Ryan Thornton and wife Sarah, of Burleson, Ashley Wuest, of The Colony, Lauren Wuest, of Dallas; sister-in-law Marilyn D. Bonnell, of San Antonio; nephew Dr. Jim Lomax and wife Nancy, of Bellaire; three great-grandchildren; and countless beloved friends.
Visitation will be held at Lloyd James Funeral Home in Tyler on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 from 6 to 8 P.M. Funeral Services will be on Wednesday, April 8, 2015, at 11:00 A.M., also at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery with full military honors and escorted by the Patriot Guard.
