Funeral services for Ellen Ruth Perdue, age 89 of Tyler, will be 2:00 pm Saturday, September 28, 2024, at Tyler Memorial Funeral Home with her nephew, Mr. Bobby Perdue, officiating. Mrs. Perdue was born on November 18, 1934, in Smith County, Texas to James Ora and Willie Mae Dowdy Bostick and passed away on September 24, 2024, in Bullard, Texas. Ellen married Kenneth Perdue on June 19, 1954, at Cedar Street Methodist Church in Tyler. The family moved to Houston in 1965, where she continued raising her three daughters and shortly after welcomed a fourth. In 1971, Mrs. Perdue rejoined the workforce, working for K-Mart Corporation in the Marketing and Human Resources departments until she retired in 1991. After a short retirement, she reentered the workforce in 1996 working as a teacher in the Infant room at Bethany Methodist Weekday School, a job she truly loved. She remained at the weekday school until retiring for a second time in 2006. In 2018, she and her husband returned to Tyler, Texas, to live out their days in the place where they were born, raised, and married. Survivors include her husband of 70 years Kenneth Perdue, daughters: Julia Dickinson and husband Albert, Jeanie Ward and husband Jim and Janice Smith and husband Tim; grandchildren: Casey, Jake and wife Hannah, Rachel and Sam, Scott and wife Phoebe, great-grandchildren: Leila, Abrielle and Dax, her sister: Dorothy Strait, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Ellen was preceded in death by her parents and youngest daughter, Ellen Jill Perdue.
Ellen will be laid to rest in Tyler Memorial Park, Tyler, TX.
