He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years Joyce Reiner; his daughter Lisa Armstrong and her husband Bob and three children David, Mackenzie and Luke; son Mike Reiner and his wife Lisa Reiner and their daughter Nikki; daughter Susie Peschel and her husband Daron and their two daughters Brooke and Bailey; his brothers Phil Reiner and wife Lynda Reiner; John Reiner and wife Holly Reiner and cousin Steve Reiner of Bowling Green, Kentucky.
Dave entered the United States Air Force on January 31, 1955 at Lackland AFB, Texas and was a 27 year Air Force veteran. He flew 223 combat missions in Vietnam. Flying was his passion and he would have done it until the day he died had he been able. He met his wife Joyce in Bryan, Texas and they married on July 19, 1958. During his Air Force career, he served in several leadership positions. His positions included Flying Squadron Commander, Wing Deputy Commander for Operations, Tactical Air Command Headquarters Chief, Wing Vice Commander and Commander of two operations tactical wings. Dave completed his career as the Wing Commander of the 602nd Tactical Air Control Wing at Bergstrom AFB in Austin, Texas. He retired from the Air Force on September 30, 1981. He always had a sign above his desk that said: "lead, follow or get out of the way". He had a "can do" attitude which is why he was so successful in his second career at Baker Tank Company/Altech in Arp, Texas. He started as the company pilot and Personnel Manager and was promoted to General Manager and was told he had six months to turn the company around which is exactly what he did. He even took the business overseas to make them an international company because he was never afraid of a challenge! Dave retired January 7, 2000 and dedicated his time to giving back to the community. He volunteered weekly at the Red Cross and Salvation Army until he found a service organization that shared his passion for America and Patriotism. He joined the Patriot Guard organization. Dave spent hours organizing events where veterans lined the streets with American flags to welcome home fallen soldiers, some young enough to be his grandchildren and retired military personnel.
He was passionate about making others feel proud of what their sons and daughters had done fighting for America's freedom. One of his best friends said if you had one word to describe Dave Reiner it would be "Patriot!" Dave was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and tried to attend as many Sunday games as possible. He also loved golfing and most of all loved his grandchildren. He and Joyce spoiled them every chance they could get. They purchased a timeshare so everyone could meet at the beach in the summer for some relaxation and bonding. He wasn't a huge beach person but loved to watch the kids. He would grill steaks at night and sometimes even make a turkey - yes in July!
Dave lived life to the fullest with a huge smile on his face and those who knew him know that he brought those smiles into Heaven.
