Billy is preceded in death by his parents, Marshall and Violet Gibson; brother, Robert Gibson.
He is survived by his spouse, Sarah R. Gibson; daughters, Robin Smith and Dana G. Whitt (Mike); sons, Charles Gibson (Rose) and Darron Gibson (Cindy); grandchildren, Kristina Acker, Logan Whitt, Devon Gibson, Shelby Gibson, Christopher Gibson, Kathrine Jones, Elizabeth Sorrells, and Lora Dialo; great-grands, Brayden, Gracyn, Alivia, Julianna, Eli, Kaden, and Alice.
Billy was born in Alabama on April 10, 1936. He attended school in Tuscaloosa, AL. He joined the Navy in June of 1953, where he served on the USS Mt. McKinley during the Korean Conflict until his time in the Navy ended in honorable discharge. He met the love of his life, Sarah Ann Riley. They were married June 7, 1957. They were blessed with 65 years of marriage and 4 kids, 8 grandchildren, and 7 great-grands. After retirement, Billy worked in the antique business where he bought and sold many beautiful pieces of furniture and depression glass. He made many friends over the years while in this business. He later became a contract delivery driver for Hackbarth until his final retirement in 2019. Billy was a devout Christian and loved his church and church family.
Pallbearers are Mike Whitt, Logan Whitt, Devon Gibson, Christopher Gibson, Brayden Smith, and Layne Gilliland.
Honorary pallbearers are all members of East McFarland Baptist Church, Coty Wade employees of Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center, and all medical staff and doctors that treated him.
A visitation for Billy will be held Wednesday, February 22, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 PM at Memory Chapel Funeral Home, 2200 Skyland Blvd East, Tuscaloosa, Alabama 35405, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to your favorite charity or East McFarland Baptist Church.
