TUSCALOOSA | Sally G. Bates, age 77, of Tuscaloosa, Ala., died November 16, 2015. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, November 19, 2015, at Memory Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Bart Latner officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens with Memory Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the funeral home.She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Doshie Gant; brothers, Wilburn Gant, Aaron Gant, Bud Gant and Pete Gant; and sisters, Jean Haygood, Adrian Castro, Doshie Elna Gant and Anna Marie Gant.Survivors include her husband, J. W. Bates; daughters, Charlotte Barger and Christy Foster; son, Kenneth Bates; grandchildren, Michael Bates (Sara), Brett Barger, Tyler Bates (Chelsea), Randi Shae Bates, Dylan Barger, Christin F. Brown (Forrest) and Abbi Foster; and six great-grandchildren.Sally was a longtime member of Gilgal Baptist Church. She retired in 1992 from Partlow after 25 years of service.Pallbearers will be Michael Bates, Forrest Brown, Dylan Barger, J. C. Hoggle, Jeff Hoggle and John Eady. Honorary pallbearers are Hospice of West Alabama, DCH Cancer Center staff, Gilgal Baptist Church, Dr. David Harding, Sonnie and Donna Vintson, Marston and Sherri Martin, Bill Boyd, L. C. Hoggle and Tim and Ginger Nix. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Hospice of West Alabama.
