Julian C. "Buddy" Horton, 86, of Northport, passed away on, Wednesday, September 6, 2023. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, September 14, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Memory Chapel Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Sarah M. Pate, father, S. C. Horton, sisters Connie Patterson, Gail Surwic Cook, and brother Mickey Surwic.
He is survived by his wife, of 60 years, Peggie Stephens Horton, daughters Connie McGee (Mark), Julie Davis (Jeff), son Julian “Dale” Horton (Helen), brothers Billy Jim Horton, Jim Pate, and Mike Pate; grandchildren Amber M. Henderson (Shea), Brook McGee, Amelia H. Dismukes (Blake), Bailey D. Stephens (Buddy), Evan Horton; great-grandchildren Holden Junkin, Emmerson and Liam Stephens.
He graduated from Brookwood High School in 1956, and served in the U. S. Army. He worked at Gulf States Paper for 18 years, and Jim Walter Mine #4 for 22 years before retiring, and moving to Orange Beach. He loved and was a big part of the Bear Point community and enjoyed serving at the Civic Association, cooking and Bingo every Thursday night. 19 years later returned home, to the Tuscaloosa area.
He was a loving, and devoted Husband, Daddy and Papaw. He was a hard-working man who provided and took care of his family. He loved hunting, fishing, cutting grass and anything outdoors. He was always on the search for a better deal and was great at haggling down prices. He loved family celebrations and telling stories of his childhood and life. His family truly loved him deeply and will miss him beyond measure!
Pallbearers will be Evan Horton, Blake Dismukes, Brook McGee, Shea Henderson, Jeff Davis and Buddy Stephens.
Honorary pallbearers are Calvin Taylor, Denny Capley and the Brookwood Class of 56.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: St. Judes or any of the Veterans organizations.
