John Preston Dalton III

A celebration of life for John will be held Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Memory Chapel Funeral Home. A visitation will occur one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at Memory Hill Gardens following the service.

John was preceded in death by his parents, John Preston Dalton, Jr. and Mary Armistead Gochnauer.

He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Carol Sue Fields Dalton.

John Preston Dalton III was born April 28, 1937, and was raised in Charlottesville, Virginia, where his father was the librarian of the University of Virginia. Despite lack of formal training, John shed taken and love of music and the arts at an early age.

In 1960, John moved with his parents to New York City, where he thrived in his new urban environment. Although shy by nature, John made friends easily and soon became involved in volunteer at the New York City Ballet and the Metropolitan Opera. He was an avid baseball fan, and loved the Yankees. After John's mother died, his father married Margaret Stieg, and he and John moved to Tuscaloosa.
