James Austin Abernathy (Jimmy), 78 years old, went Home to be with his Lord on February 7, 2024. Jimmy was born in Montgomery, AL, was raised in Tuscaloosa, served seven years in the Army, and returned to Tuscaloosa where he joined the 75+ year long family business, Abernathy’s Grocery. Jimmy’s legacy of loving his family continues with his wife of 55 years, Jade, his children Jim Abernathy and Julie Abernathy, of Tuscaloosa, his precious grandchildren Austin Abernathy and wife Ari, of Utah, Alexandra Abernathy, Hannah Jacobs and husband John, and Kaitlyn Jacobs, of Tuscaloosa, his great-granddaughter, Adeline Abernathy, of Utah, his sister Kathy Hacker and her husband Eddie, of Cullman, his sister-in-law Dana White, of Starkville, as well as many nieces and nephews, scattered across the USA. He was an active member of First Baptist Church Agape Sunday School and walked with his Savior and Lord Jesus for over 67 years.
Jimmy is now with his parents, Fred and Joanna Abernathy and his sister, Freddie Matthews.
There will be a Visitation from 3:00-4:00, followed by a Celebration of Life service from 4:00-5:00 at First Baptist Church, Tuscaloosa sanctuary on Friday, February 9, 2024.
The family would like to thank everyone who has sent cards and food, who have called and text, and who have prayed during this journey.
