George Allan Hinton, 85, passed away peacefully at his home in Tuscaloosa, AL, surrounded by his family, on Monday, December 20, 2021. His funeral will be held at Memory Chapel on Thursday, December 23rd, at 10:30 AM. The visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 prior to the service. Officiating the service will be Dr. Curtis Kelly, Reverend Herman Parker, Reverend Randy Pate, and Reverend Brian Hinton with grandsons serving as pallbearers.
George is preceded in death by his parents, Phares and Ruby Hinton; sisters, Doris Prewitt, Jerry Prewitt, Bonnie Wyatt, and Hazel “Jill” Barton. He is survived by his wife, Jo Ann Parker Hinton; daughters Terri Hinton Ellis (Jimmy) and Patti Hinton Crowe (Greg); son Allan Hinton (Terrie); brother Harold “Jack” Hinton (Linda); grandchildren Callie Makemson (Brett), Caleb Ellis (Noel), Caitlin Lucas (Kyle), Taylor Hinton, Nathan Hinton (Grace), Collin Crowe, Jacob Hinton, Carson Crowe; special grandson Spencer Suarez (Allison);and 4 great-grandchildren Wyatt Ellis, Camden Suarez, Finn Hinton, and Jeffrey Duke “JD” Makemson.
George was born on September 19, 1936, to Phares and Ruby Hinton. George was a lifelong resident of the Big Sandy community, where his family had farmed for generations. Farming was in George’s blood and after graduating Tuscaloosa County High school, he went on to work for the sales and building industry. On September 30, 1956, he married Jo Ann Parker Hinton, who he considered his true helpmate and the love of his life. They were married for 65 years. George was an active member of his community and served as a music minister for over 50 years, serving at both Big Sandy Baptist and Crestline Baptist. He retired from Alabama Brick.
George was a devoted family man and friend and he greatly cherished his loved ones. He could oftentimes be found hunting, fishing, farming, gardening, and spending time outdoors. George will affectionately be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and wit, along with his dedication to his family.
