Ray Andrews, 86 passed away April 17, 2024 at Hospice of West Alabama after a long battle of complications from a stroke. He was born March 18, 1938, the son of Coy and Bessie Andrews of Jacksonville, AL.
Ray graduated from Jacksonville High School in 1956 with honors playing basketball and qualified for All County his senior year. Soon after graduation, he married the love of his life, Carolyn Brock.
He worked with his uncle’s hardwood flooring business until July 1959, and then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. During his service, he was stationed in Savannah, GA, Tule, Greenland, Amarillo, TX, and Tuscaloosa, Al. He retired at the rank of Senior Master Sergeant in 1979.
He entered the insurance business after his military discharge and later retired from both Life of Georgia and ALFA Insurance with multiple awards.
Ray loved to fish and continued his crappie fishing up until the time of his strokes. He cherished the time spent with his family and especially with his grandsons and great grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Charlotte Howard and Sherry Holbrook.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Carolyn Andrews, his children, Eric Andrews (Carol), Regina Sanders (Todd), grandchildren Brock Broughton, Connor Broughton, Landon Andrews (Mary Katherine) and great grandson Lawson Broughton.
Services will be at 2:00 Monday, April 22, 2024 at Memory Chapel Funeral Home with Pastor Jonathan P. S. Ivy officiating. Burial will follow with Military Honors. Visitation will be one hour prior to service.
Pallbearers are Brock Broughton, Connor Broughton, Landon Andrews, Ernie Spiller, Steve Fowler, Bee Morrison and Mark Lawrence. Honorary pallbearers are Janie Fowler, Ross Henderson, Barbara Edwards, Sherry Wilson, Francis Elliott, Beverly Winston, DCH TSICU, DCH 6th floor South, employees of Moundville Health and Rehab and Hospice of West Alabama.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of West Alabama.
