Dorothy Teague-Simpson, age 95 of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, formerly of Estill Springs, Tennessee, passed away Monday, May 24, 2021. She was born September 14, 1925 in Cleveland, Tennessee, to the late Oad William Teague and Edna Lee Carson-Teague. Mrs. Simpson was a homemaker, gardener, seamstress, cook, quilter, fisherwoman, and the mother of 7 children. She also had 19 grandchildren, 35 great- grandchildren, and 9 great- great- grandchildren. She enjoyed sewing for her family and friends. She was known for her handmade quilts that she gave to each child when they married and upon the birth of her grandchildren. She lovingly maintained beautiful thrift garden beds of blue, red, lilac, and white thrift that stretched behind her home of 50 years in Estill Springs, Tennessee. So many people stopped to admire her garden that she decided to sell starter containers of thrift that now grace gardens from New York to Florida. She also enjoyed fishing with her family and her dear friend, Ella Mae Chitwood- Southard.
Mama is remembered as a funny, sweet, kind, inspirational, and amazing lady.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Earl Simpson, a World War II Army Air Force veteran held in 3 different German POW camps, son, Larry Lee Simpson (Janice); granddaughter, Mary Ellen Southard-McGee, great-grandchild, Victoria Elliott; daughter-in-law, Mary Jane Zimmerman-Simpson (Darrell); son-in-law, Willis Sample (Edna); sister, Lillian Elizabeth Fox (Raymond); brother, Jack Omar Teague (Christeena); father and mother-in-laws, Ernest Orlando and Cordia Rice-Simpson, and her special chihuahua, Tigger.
Survivors include children, Edna Newman-Samples of Harrison, Tennessee; Darrell Lynn Simpson of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; Judy Carol Southard (Brian) of Canton, Georgia; Betty Kegg (Bill) of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; Omar Earl Simpson (Barbara Armour) of Shelbyville, Tennessee; and Bobby Wayne Simpson (Sandy) of Winchester; and Mama's four-legged best friend, Sadie.
Funeral arrangements are furnished by Memory Chapel Funeral Home, A Dignity Memorial Provider, 2200 Skyland Blvd E, Tuscaloosa, AL 35405. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 27, 2021, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00p.m. Funeral Service follows at 2:00 p.m. with Brother Herbert Thomas officiating.
Interment will follow at Memorial Hill Gardens.
Pall bearers are Doug Simpson, Mitch Smithson, Preston Pate, Landon Pate Jason Elliott and Hunter Sample.
