David E. “Pete” Carter, age 75, of Tuscaloosa, died Sept. 1, 2010, at his river home in Greensboro. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Memory Hill Gardens with Rev. Arthur Thomas and Rev. Lyle Geist officiating and Memory Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elsie and George Carter; his wife, Maggie Carter; and his brothers, Jr. Carter, Dwayne Hobson, and Frank Carter.
Survivors include his daughter, Fay Beck (Mark); his son, David Wayne Carter; his sisters, Jeanette Crocker (Burt) and Louise Reach; his brothers, Jimmy Carter (Betty Jean), John Ellis Carter (Jane), and Buster Carter; his grandchildren, Steve Beck, Michael Beck (Jamie), and Tony Porter; his great-grandchildren, Gage Beck and Maggie Beth Beck; and special friend, Ellen Parker.
David was a great father and a loving and caring grandfather and great-grandfather. He was an employee of Phifer Wire for 45 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family and spending time fishing at his river house.
Pallbearers will be Steve Beck, Michael Beck, Tony Porter, Joey Carter, Michael Akins, and Jason Akins.
Honorary pallbearers are employees of Phifer Wire, Beverly Phifer, Jim Brooks, Brad Cork, Olan and Wilma Watkins, Curtis and Rita Harper, Marvin and Janet Stevens, Odes and Jean Stevens, Charlie and Hazel Pinion, Dr. Hinton and nurses and staff at DCH Cancer Center, and Dr. John Warren.
The family would like to thank all of those who prayed and supported us during his final days. We appreciate all the compassionate care we received from Hospice of West Alabama and three special nurses, Betty Kirks, Ollie Evans, and Joy.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society and Hospice of West Alabama.
