Bernice Jason

Bernice Jason, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed peacefully on September 14th, 2024, at the age of 92, surrounded by her family. Born on January 28,1932, to Henry and Arivila Muckelroy in Hearne, Texas, Bernice had three siblings: Carrie Davis, Erma Rucker and Charles Mulckeroy.

Bernice lived a rich and fulfilling life, surrounded by her large and devoted family.

A dedicated homemaker, Bernice found joy in the simple and meaningful aspects of life. She was known for her love of cooking, always sharing delicious meals with family and friends. Bernice was deemed the queen for her “Great Collard Greens”. Bernice possessed a green thumb, and gardening was a source of pride to her, as she tended it with care and patience. Her home was always a warm and welcoming place filled with laughter, good food, the beauty of nature and music. Bernice loved to shop, and kept her appearance immaculate, her hair was never out of place. Bernice shared the wisdom of life with her daughters and son, preparing them for the future. Bernice absolutely loved being amid the grandchildren attending basketball games, watching WWF Wrestling matches and being involved in their activities. Bernice was also an avid bible reader and would always share uplifting scriptures with the family.

Bernice’s energy and love of life were infectious, she truly loved life and her family.

Bernice was the devoted wife of her late husband Austin Jason whom she met in Galveston, Texas and married in October 1951. Austin served in the military during the Korean War, and their life together was marked by strength and love. After Austin’s military duty the couple made California their home.

Born into this union were six girls and one son, Wilma, Jacqueline, Pauline, Peggy, Cynthia, Austin and Beverly. This bunch made the Jason family live complete, and an outpouring of love went into each of their children.

Many years after the death of her husband, Bernice decided to move to Pflugerville, Texas the place that she would now consider home. She met new friends and reacquainted with old friends around the Texas area, Bernice joined the St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Richard A. Coaxum and remained an active member until she received her earthly call to eternal life.

Bernice was preceded in death by her, husband Austin, daughter Jacqueline Griggs, son Austin Bernard Jason, brother Charles Muckelroy, and Sister-in-law Helen Lee.

Bernice leaves to cherish her memories; her children Wilma, Pauline, Peggy (Harry), Cynthia (Jeffrey), Beverly (Monroe), Nineteen Grandchildren, and Thirty Great-Grandchildren, Sisters Carrie Davis & Erma Rucker, Sister-in- law Robbie Muckelroy a host of relatives, friends and her church family.

Bernice will always be remembered as a kind, caring and gentle soul who cherished her family above all else, her impact on the lives of those around her will never be forgotten.
