Our father was a very strong man. He was built like a brick house but can be soft as well and very understanding. I remember one of the first words that my dad turned to me and said when he was diagnosed was, "Even the strongest steel can bend, it doesn't even matter how tough we are." Our father loved to eat, drink, and enjoyed having his laughs. As a father, I could not ask for anything more and he always tried his best to provide for his family. I know I enjoyed every moment with him, I learned a lot from him, and I knew there was always more to learn from him. In my heart I know I am the man I am today because of this man. One thing he told me before he passed was, don't forget me and I told him that I could never forget this man. Our father was a different kind of person, he was one hard worker, and he would even tell me time to time and point at himself saying, This guy right here, they don't make them like this anymore. When you think about it, it felt so true. All I know is we won't forget you and you will always be in my heart, and be my one and only father. I know you're in a better place and I am not saying good bye, but will see each other again someday and hoping to have a glass of wine with you. 
For everyone that has supported us and everyone that came to the visitation and funeral our family thanks you. The person who will need the most support will be my other. So please if you can keep her and her family in your prayers. We love you dad and we will never forget you!!

Dearest Dad, 

I don't know where I should begin.  I want you to know that I always liked when you liked me.  Perhaps, it is for that very reason that you thought yourself to be forgotten...but, that is simply not the truth--and maybe, at the same token, you also thought the same thing without my being able to recognize it.  Dad, what I'm trying to say is that I never wanted to see you in pain...I remember one time, when we lived in Newman, you were working the land but taking too long.  I packed a sandwich for you and set off to find you.  When I got there, you were wrestling with the disc of the tractor--and as strong as you were--alone, you could not get it right.  Dad, I don't know if you remember, but I went to your side, and together--we conquered it...but, I remember thinking:  "Poor thing, out here all alone, trying to keep his family together."  How badly I wanted to help you now, Dad.  I want to hold you...but, I don't know if you want to accept me.  I get scared because we have had our differences:  you have probably thought me different--like I'm cold or just don't care, but you don't know what kind of absence in my heart there is without you in my life.  So, I try not to cry because I don't want to see you cry.  Tell me now Dad:  What are we going to do without you?  You don't know how badly I wanted to see you healthy again.  Why do you have to go?    

Dad, you are my hero and I know that I am not alone in this.  You were always a man of respect, honor, and pride and a best friend to many.  I want to believe that you know this truth and that this, and only this, many times has led me to triumph out of the pits of darkness.  You have made me the person that I am, and you may not think much of it, because I know that we have gone through our differences, and I know that you will always feel that I will always be the one to fail you.  I promise you this though, any anguish that I may have caused was the result of nothing more than ignorance and not that of being unfeeling. 

Just the other day, Dad, you asked me to forgive you for any hurt that you may have caused me.  Why should I forgive you, Dad?  For making me a decent woman?  You have helped make me a stronger person and for that I cannot thank you enough.  I will always be thankful to you for that and I have always been you're friend.  This is my recollection of you, Dad; no matter where you decide that you would rather be, let you always be accompanied by the good lord.  Even though you have left a seething hole in my heart, I know that you are always with me.

Just found out today you lost your beloved husband, how clearly I remember the love you had for each other when you were young at the Portuguese dances a love that will always give you light through the darkness of your emptiness.May God comfort you and your beautiful family.

We admired the strength and courage that Arnaldo and Urbana had during his health battle. He will be remembered in our hearts as such a wonderful and kind man who also knew how to call out the steps for the "Chamarita". May God Bless the entire Silveira Family in their time of sadness. We love you!
