Master Sergeant William J. Proffitt, is being honored at today's retirement ceremony in recognition of his 20 years or dedicated military service.
Master Sergeant Proffitt was born on 4 October 1954 in Olympia, WA. He entered active duty in January of 1973 and completed basic training at Ft. Ord, CA. His military schooling includes: Pharmacy Specialist Course, Basic Non-Commissioned Officers Course, Officer Candidate School (Reserve), National Guard Military Academy, and Advanced Non-Commissioned Officers Course.
Master Sergeant Proffitt's previous assignments include: Pharmacy Specialist, Madigan Army Medical Center, Tacoma, WA; Pharmacy Specialist and Ambulance Platoon Sergeant, Company C. 172nd Support Battalion, 172 Infantry Brigade, Ft. Richardson, AK; Senior Pharmacy Specialist, Madigan Army Medical Center, Tacoma, Wa; instructor at the Pharmacy Specialist Course, Pharmacy Skills Qualification Test writer, Soldier's Manual writer, and Expert Field Medical Badge Test Control Officer/Administrator/Writer, Army Medical Department Center and school, Ft Sam Houston TX; Senior Pharmacy Specialist and Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge (NCOIC) of Outpatient Pharmacy Services. Fitzsimons Army Medial Center, Aurora, CO; First Sergeant, Company A, Fitzsimons Army Medical Center, Aurora, CO; and assistant medical regulating officer and operations NCO, HHC 332nd Medical Brigade, Vll Corps. Saudi Arabia. Master Sergeant Proffitt assumed his present position as the Non-Com missioned Officer in Charge of Ambulatory Nursing Services, Department of Nursing. Fitzsimons Army Medical Center, Aurora, CO, in May of 1991.
Master Sergeant Proffitt's military awards and decorations include: Meritorious Service Medal with 1st Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Commendation Medal with 4th Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Achievement Medal with 2nd Oak Leaf Cluster, National Defense Service Medal with 1 Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal 6th award. Southwest Asia Service Medal with 2 campaign stars; Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon(3), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Kuwait Liberation Medal, Expert Field Medical Badge, and M-16 Expert Marksmanship badge.
Upon retirement, Master Sergeant Proffitt plans to reside in Olympia, WA, and finish his degree in Human Resources Management. Master Sergeant Proffitt is married to the former Patricia E. Mabe, and they have three children, Katie, Bryan and Joseph.
