Randy Allan Sapp was born December 6, 1949 in Olympia, Washington to Harold and Gloria (Sandi) Sapp. He grew up in fishing, hunting and adventuring through the now developed forests of Tumwater off of Linwood Avenue with his lifelong friends and his brother Rick. As Randy got older he developed a love for mechanics and repairing all sorts of things which spanned his entire life as he enjoyed restoring old Jeeps, tools and other items that only he could see as things that could be restored. He attended high school at Tumwater High and was the senior Homecoming King prior to graduating in 1968. It was also during this time that he met the love of his life, Pamela Lee (Wagner) Sapp, whom he married in 1970.
Randy proactively joined the Army in 1969 and served our country in the Vietnam War. He supervised approximately 50 personnel for the US Army Security Agency and held Top Secret crypto clearances. His bravery during the war earned him a bronze star medal for valor. He was honorably discharged in 1972 as a Sergeant.
Upon leaving the Army, he returned home to the Olympia/Tumwater area and went to work for the family business, Yenney’s Music, where he worked for 6 years. He later started his career with Providence Hospitals, working at St. Peters in Olympia in the materials management department. In 1987, Randy decided to pursue a dream of his and moved his family to Orcas Island in northwestern Washington where he owned and operated the Orcas Leatherworks, providing custom leather goods and related items to locals and tourists alike.
In 1994, Randy and Pam returned to Tumwater and he eventually went back to work for Providence. In 2016 he completed his 25 year career with them as the Director of Supply Chain Management.
During his retirement, Randy enjoyed spending time with his family, driving his Jeep, collecting knives, and working on various restoration projects in his shop aka his “happy place”. His borderline OCD regarding his tools made him the “go to guy” for anyone looking for a random nut or bolt. He was always willing to lend anyone a hand when they were in need, and he was the kindest person you could have known.
Randy passed away on November 13, 2019 unexpectedly at his home in Olympia, Wa.
Randy is survived by his loving wife of 49 years Pamela, and his two children, Steffanee Roach (Sean) and Jason Sapp (Lyndsey) as well as his brother Rick Sapp (Deni) and nephews Brian (Carly) and Eric (Eryn) Sapp. He also had 10 grandchildren: Jeffrey (Karly), Jeshurun, Sunshine, Judah, Summer Morning, Eliana, Avtalia, Shoshannah, Jeremiah and Isaiah. Finally he had one great grandchild, Juliet.
A celebration of life will be held for Randy at Mills and Mills Funeral Home in Tumwater at 4pm on Friday, November 22nd.
