Mary was born on December 17, 1928 to Ivor and Mildred McCracken in Olympia WA. Mary went to several schools including Washington Grade School, Bordeaux Grade School, Lacey Grade School, Redmond Junior High, Kirkland High School, and Olympia High School.
After Mary graduated from Olympia High School in 1947, she began working at the Dodge and Plymouth dealership, A.G. Schaefer Company as an assistant bookkeeper. In 1950, after 3 years at the dealership, Mary went to work at the Washington State Patrol as a payroll clerk. It was here that Mary met her future husband Delvin Jay Ogden Jr., who came to work at the WSP as a photographer.
Mary and Delvin were married May 30, 1952. Mary and Del went on to have three children: Ruth Ann 3/25/1955, William Stewart 6/18/1957-8/1/1981, and Evan Jay 9/27/1960.
Mary’s spiritual journey began when she was a grade schooler at a Tuesday night Bible school led by her first piano teacher Jenny Bower. After that spiritual foundation, Mary was saved at Lacey Bible Church during VBS when she was 12. Mary later surrendered to Jesus as her Lord in April of 1965.
In 1981, after her children were grown, Mary went on to get an AA degree in Accounting at South Sound Community College.
Mary was widowed on February 10, 1982. Later that year Mary began work at the Washington State Department of Revenue as an audit reviewer. Mary retired in 1990 and enjoyed her time with family, church and hobbies.
Mary’s lifelong hobbies were knitting, crocheting, sewing, scrapbooking, reading, piano, bread making, and canning.
Mary also enjoyed volunteering with Sunday School, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, Good News Club, Christian Women’s Club, Vacation Bible School and Ladies Bible Study. Mary also was church treasurer and church pianist.
Mary was predeceased by her husband, Delvin Jay Ogden Jr., her brother, Donald M. McCracken, her son, William Stewart Ogden, and her granddaughter, Leah Christine Ogden. She is survived by her son and daughter and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Services will be held at Grace Baptist Church, 19136 Loganberry Street SW, Rochester WA on Sunday, September 25th at 2:00 pm.
