James Stanley Malleck, 85, passed away February 3, 2015 in Olympia, Washington. He was born July 13, 1929 in Indianola, Nebraska to Paul and Jessie (McCool) Malleck. They family moved to the Black Lake area when James was 12. He attended the old “Delphi School”. He graduated from Olympia High School in 1948.
James served in the Army during the Korean War. He married Doreen Walls on June 2, 1954. They were married 40 years. Doreen passed away in 1994.
Mr. Malleck worked for the State of Washington. He stared out as the Department of Institutions and then moved to DSHS where he retired as a Data Processing Manager.
James was a longtime member of the American Legion Post 3 and was also a member of the VFW. He was a dedicated volunteer who for many years put up the American Flags in downtown Olympia for the holidays. He also was very active in raising money for the Junior Legion Baseball and many other projects.
Mr. Malleck loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, clam digging, working in his yard, going to the casino, and crabbing on Hood Canal. He also loved his vegetable garden and would have contests with his brother Paul to see who would eat corn first out of their gardens. He was known for telling jokes and always and always had one handy! But most of all he loved being with his family. He was a wonderful husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend. He lived at Olympics West Retirement home for the last 7 years.
James was preceded in death by his wife Doreen and brothers and sisters, Paul, Bill, George, Ruth Briggs and Betty Flani.
He is survived by his son James A. Malleck (Louise), Kathy McIsaac (Ken), grandchildren Kristine, Ross, Branden, Nicole, Jeremy and great-grandchildren Devyn, Hayden, McKayla and Kaydon.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, March 28, 2015 at 11:00 am at Mills & Mills Memorial Park, Tumwater, Washington followed immediately by a social gathering. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Cancer Society.
