Dorothy lived an adventurous and resilient life. Growing up in Preston, she then graduated from University of Idaho where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta. Later she earned an MBA from University of Puget Sound. Dorothy demonstrated the importance of education and hard work single-handedly raising six children in Spokane and later in Olympia.
A woman of many talents, Dorothy was a seamstress, costume maker, quilter, upholsterer, chef and gardener. She worked as a dietician, teacher and retired from Washington State DSHS as a computer systems analyst.
Quick-witted with a dry sense of humor, “Dot“ loved family celebrations, travel, reading, skiing and relaxing at the lake. Most of all she loved supporting and encouraging the many adventures of her beloved children and grandchildren.
Dorothy is survived by and will be greatly missed by her six children: Ruth, Nancy, Karen (Paul), Sandy (Dave), Jim (Debbie), and Patty (Rich); seven grandchildren: Ian, Dan, Brent, Haley, Hannah, Marc and Ashley; her two siblings: Kibby, and David (Diana); and nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents David and Emma.
Many thanks to the wonderful Garden Courte Memory Care staff and the Providence Hospice team who cared for her.
The family will have a private celebration of life for Dorothy. Memorial remembrances may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org).
