Carl was born November 18th 1945 in Seattle, Washington, to Carl Gus and Anna Elizabeth Mackey. He passed away January 20, 2012, at his home in Olympia, Washington.
He is survived by his daughter, Johanna Knickerbocker, granddaughters, Paisley and Trinity Townsend of Tumwater, and his cousin Carla Johnson of Portland, Oregon.
Carl grew up in Bremerton, Washington and as a young boy he was active in Cub Scouts and loved to build model cars. In High School, he played the trumpet in concert, marching and stage bands. He was also a member of the Seattle Youth Symphony. He graduated from West High in 1964 and went on to both Olympic College and Central Washington University.
Carl returned to Bremerton and married Susan Corcoran. They moved to Olympia in 1968 so he could work for Metropolitan Life. They had one daughter, Johanna, and then later divorced. He stayed in Olympia and worked a few different jobs until he landed at the Dept. of Employment Security for the State of Washington. He started out as a coordinator with the Youth Volunteer program with E.S., he held a couple different positions with the department but for the last 17 years of his career he was the Divisions policy and procedures writer. He loved what he did, but his ultimate goal was retirement. After 26 years with the State, that is what he did.
After a bit of traveling he bought a boat and enjoyed cruising around the Puget Sound. He enjoyed watching the News channels and playing on his computer. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. He loved to talk politics, investments and Seahawks. He had his opinion on a lot and loved to let it be known. He was an amazing man and will be dearly missed.
