Olga Nava Salazar, age 87, of Tucson, Arizona passed away on Monday, January 23, 2023. Olga was born in Nogales, Arizona, in 1935, and filled every day of every year with love. She is preceded in passing by her beloved husband, John V. Salazar. She is survived by her sister, Grace Sierra; her children Nancy Acosta, John R. Salazar, Joseph L. Salazar (Rosalinda Salazar), and Sandra A. Salazar; ten grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren.
Olga and John met when they were children, and remained life-long loves. Their dedication to and adoration of one another bloomed from their first meeting; from Olga's leniency at the water fountain of their youth and her weakness for his eyes, to John's steadfast defense of Olga and the flowers he grew for her, their love is everlasting; the life they grew together became a garden.
Olga cultivated a home always regarded as a safe haven to the many children in her life through the years; she filled her home with the aroma of her famous tacos, the sound of laughter, and dancing in the kitchen with her beloved. Whether someone was "borrowing" the water from the hose, a fellow pilot or snowbird friend of John's, or needed a hand in the middle of the night, Olga made certain they were well fed and well loved.
Olga touched many hearts, living each day full of love and gentle care for her family and community. She worked as a bank teller until retirement, and dedicated the rest of her time to her children and parish.
Olga was many wonderful things, and more than anything she was generous; no better example of this can be found than when she used satin from her own bridal gown to sew the ascots for John's newly established honor guard. When asked why she would do such a thing, she said plainly "I wanted to help." This remained a truth she lived by her entire life.
Olga will be dearly and deeply missed by her devoted family, and her community.
