Millie’s life was further enriched by the joy of family, as she was blessed with 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, all of whom affectionately called her "Nanny." Her nurturing spirit and warmth extended beyond her immediate family.
Growing up in Palestine, Texas, Millie embodied the values of a true Southern girl. She valued hard work and dedication, which she demonstrated throughout her career. After studying bookkeeping, she embarked on a career that included roles in customer service at Sears before finding her niche as a bookstore manager at Tucson Unified School District.
Millie’s talents extended far beyond her professional endeavors. She was renowned among her loved ones for being an amazing cook, seamstress, and hostess. Whether it was crafting delicious meals that brought everyone together, stitching intricate designs with her skilled hands, or creating warm and welcoming spaces for gatherings, Millie’s creativity and attention to detail shone through. She had a love for the outdoors and adventure with her enjoyment of camping trips, where she relished in the beauty of nature and the simplicity of life. She was also a fan of card games and square dancing, activities that brought joy to her and all social circles. Millie was an active member of her church community and was involved in the women’s ministries at Stream in the Desert Lutheran church. Her faith was a guiding light in her life, and she found great comfort and strength in her spiritual beliefs.
Millie’s love story with Hobie began in a charming way—they met at an outdoor skating rink in her hometown. Their bond was sealed on June 1, 1952, marking the beginning of a remarkable 70-year love story filled with shared adventures, laughter, and unwavering devotion.
