Mary Jane Short

Mary J. Short (Hagel) passed away on February 8, 2022. Mary was the daughter of Ronald R. Hagel Sr. and Janet J. Hagel (Grimm), born on May 7, 1961, in Peoria, IL. Mary married her one true love and teenage sweetheart, Thomas Short, August 1980. Mary and Tom lived in Tucson, Arizona where their son, Nicholas was born.

Mary had an amazing heart and was always intentional connecting with others. She brought joy and laughter and happiness to anyone she encountered. She lit up the room with her laugh, smile, and energy. Her warm greeting made you feel welcome and special and she always had a kind word for you. She was a devoted mother, wife, sister, and daughter. Her passion was her son and husband, as well as helping anyone she could through nutrition. She was affectionately called Dr. Mary and was considered an ‘angel’ by many.

Mary was preceded in death by her father, Ronald R. Hagel Sr. and her son, Nicholas M. Short. She is survived by her mother, Janet J. Hagel (Grimm), Her brothers and sister: Randolph L. Hagel (Karen), Raymond E. Hagel, Ronald R. Hagel Jr. (Bonnie), Robert A. Hagel (Beth), Ann M. Benavidez. Her nieces and nephews: Joshua Hagel, Derek Burzloff (Julia), Jenae Sanchez (Rafa), Nikki Robinson (Collin), Jonathan Benavidez (Danielle), Noah Benavidez and 10 great nieces and nephews.
