Our rock collecting, wine sipping (only one 😊), bird watching, bluegrass loving, dancing Mama went to join our Dad on August 22, 2020.
Lilly was born in Winnebago Valley, Minnesota on April 20, 1931. She was raised on a dairy farm by her parents, Adolph Gran and Myrtle Enockson plus eight siblings whom she adored. She attended a one room schoolhouse as the only girl. UFFDA! She grew up on potato klub and lefsa, taking great pride in being 100% Scandinavian.
At age 21, she caught the eye of her handsome neighbor and was married on November 10, 1952 to Alvin (Al) Travis Coleman. Their love lasted a lifetime. They went on to have 4 amazing daughters: Jody (Kent) Coleman Madson, Cindy (Garry) Coleman Putman, Donna Coleman Youngblood, and Carol (Brian) Coleman Duarte. They have 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Lilly retired from Sears after 30+ years of selling major appliances. She was the first woman to enter this uncharted territory, dominating sales in a man’s world…all while wearing high heels. After retirement, she volunteered for the Coronado National Forest as a trail guide and started her custom-made cigar box purse business known as The Klassie Bag Lady.
Lilly never met a stranger. She was always happy, had the most gracious nature, and was kind to everyone. Our mom also had never-ending patience and rarely said a bad word about anyone. But, if she did… you were a “horse’s behind”.
We can’t forget her love for her family, shopping, and then retuning her purchases, eating out with friends, going to happy hour with her Monday night widows group and tending to her many flowers.
In lieu of flowers may we suggest donations to Friends of Sabino Canyon Tucson, Tucson Wildlife Center or perform an unexpected random act of kindness in Lilly’s name.
