Hazel I. Reed Aug. 18, 1913--May 30, 2011. Those are the facts, but there is no way that the essence of this beloved lady shows in a name and two dates. It is what happened during the dash that matters. Hazel was born to English Immigrants, father a miner in South Dakota, mother a homemaker. On her sixth birthday her daddy was killed in a mine accident. After her mother remarried they moved to Montana and spent her early years farming. She was a child during WWI, a young wife and mother during the great depression, and WWII. Her husband worked in construction and she took care of the home and their one child. There were multiple moves that found this family living in many areas of the western states; making friends. Hazel was the epitome of a lady who always put her family first. Her love knew no boundaries. She acquired a daughter-in-law and later, four grandchildren, one who died in 1984. She was baptized and joined the Primitive Baptist church. After her husband died in 1978, Granny moved in with her son, daughter-in-law and the two children still at home. She quickly became the keeper of the home while the rest worked. When the teenagers came in at night she was there to listen to their thoughts, which she always did non-judgmentally. She was there to help raise the great-grandchildren as they came along. She was Granny to all with many not even knowing her name. She lost every member of her family; parents, siblings, husband and then even her only son on Nov. 21, 2010. Although she continued to show such spunk and desire to be with her grandchildren, even to her great-great grandchildren, and was still able to participate in her most delighting hobby, shopping, she succumbed to death after a week of being ill.
She leaves to mourn her passing: her daughter-in-love- Jean Reed, granddaughters- Vicki Abbott (Paul) of Tucson, Beth Schulz (Jim) of Grand Junction, CO., Dana Fosmire (Gary) of Vail, “adopted” grandchildren Margie and Warren Miller of Tucson, and Tara Horton as well as seven great-grandchildren, 12 great-great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, her Tucson Church family, her friends from the Ladies of the Morning breakfast group, many other Green Valley friends and her best friends Donna Pellican and Stella Fosmire who all love her dearly, have learned immense lessons of strength from her, and will cherish her blessed memory.
Arrangements under the direction of East Lawn Palms Mortuary, Tucson, AZ.
