Gregory Joel Miller passed away peacefully at the Emiliano group home in Tucson Arizona five days before his 77th birthday. Gregory was born in Evanston, Illinois on August 27, 1944 and lived in Illinois until 1978, when he moved to Tucson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell C. Miller and Marion (Shafer) Miller. He is survived by his brother Duncan and Duncan’s wife Holly and by his nieces, Kristin (Miller) Jackvony and Brenda (Miller) Kenahan, their husbands, Kevin Jackvony and Richard Kenahan, and his grand-nephews, Peter Ruthenberg, Sean Kenahan, Evan Kenahan, and Dylan Kenahan, as well as several cousins.
Despite a diagnosis of cerebral palsy at birth, Gregory persisted in his education. He was one of the first handicapped children to be “mainstreamed” in the Evanston school system and to graduate from Glenbrook High School in Northbrook, Illinois, in 1963. He subsequently attended Kendall College, Southern Illinois University, and Loyola University in Illinois, receiving a Master’s in Education degree from Loyola. After moving to Tucson, he took additional courses at the University of Arizona.
For several years, he participated in programs at Achieve Builds Success in Tucson and lived in the Emiliano group home managed by Danville Services. His family expresses their gratitude for the care and compassion he received from the staff at both organizations.
He is being buried next to his parents at East Lawn Cemetery in Tucson. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
