Gary Wayne Howerton

Gary was born on June 12, 1946 to William and Beatrice Howerton in Ames, IA. He attended Augustana University in Sioux Falls, SD where he earned his degree in English, setting up the foundation for a career in helping people through his work and his church.

After moving to Tucson, AZ in 1980 Gary worked in the insurance industry and retired from Lovitt and Touche after 30+ years of serving many non-profit organizations.

Gary devoted his life to his wife, Janet and his faith in God. He enjoyed hiking, Bible study, family gatherings, and spending time with friends.

Gary was preceded in death by his father, Bill Howerton, his mother, Bea Howerton, and his brother, Greg Howerton. He is survived by his wife, Janet (Keene) Howerton, his sisters, Linda (Greg) Randolph, and JoAnn (Paul) Sandoval, his children, Andrea Gutierrez, Jennifer Howerton, and Naomi Miller, his grandchildren, Arianna Gutierrez, Fiona Miller, and Aiden Miller, and Janet's children Ben (Espie) Byler, and PJ Byler.

Services will be held at East Lawn Tuesday, December 19. Viewing beginning at 12:30PM, service to follow at 2PM with the burial at 3PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Samaritan's Purse or directly to Desert Son Community Church, two organizations Gary felt strongly about.
