Born in Vanceburg, Kentucky, on October 12, 1927, to John Swearingen and Nora Swearingen, Carrie was the oldest of nine children.
Graduate of Lewis County High School, and the Portsmouth Interstate College of Business, Carrie worked at a legal secretary.
Married to Melvyn Smoot from October 6, 1951 until his death in March of 2021.
Survived by siblings, Gypsy Cooper, Jessie Lykins, Jack Swearingen, and Archie Swearingen.
by children Linda Vaubel (Harold), Gary Smoot (Kristin), and Marlin Smoot (Andrea).
by grandchildren Adrian Conklin, Allison Brown, Lauren Beck, Jaymie Smoot, Kyle Smoot, and Cheyanne Smoot. Also six great grandchildren.
Carrie loved her family, going to church, making quilts, and watching University of Arizona basketball games. She loved living in Tucson, but also enjoyed spending part of the year in her summer home in Kentucky.
Carrie was a gentle soul, with a strong will, and a friend to all. Carrie will be missed by everyone who knew her.
