Mark was born on June 16th, 1961 in Atlanta, Georgia.
He is preceded in death by his son; Dakota William Hughes, and his two parents;
Walter and Virginia Hughes.
Mark is deeply cherished by his wife Susan, and his children; Hunter, Hayley, and Brenton.
Mark and Susan shared a remarkable bond for 38 years. Susan Beautifully recalls mark as “The loud to my soft,” a testament to their complementing natures. He wasn’t just a partner to Susan, “he was her rock, her source of security and the one who believed in her unconditionally.”
Hunter recalls his father’s wisdom and authority, always backed by reason. Mark instilled accountability while also recognizing and nurturing the potential within. He enjoyed his sense of humor and the way that he held the people close to him with the highest regard. Hunter says, “Dad always saw the potential in everybody, and would be upset knowing that you didn’t try your hardest.”
His Daughter Hayley deeply feels the loss of a father that understood her completely. Mark was her confidant who seemed to know exactly how her brain worked. Hayley admires her father’s love for all children and his knack for making others feel valued. His laughter, care, and genuine interest in others made a lasting impact.
As a testament to Mark and Susan’s boundless generosity, they opened up their home to many friends and family. Brenton found a second home in Mark and Susan. He fondly remembers Mark as, “A family-oriented man, who had an emphasis on being relatable, reliable, and a trusted mentor.”
Mark forged deep connections with his nieces, nephews, and extended family alike. He made himself available at a moment’s notice and contributed greatly to the lives of others. His playful nature kept others laughing, and often told the kids “Watch This!!” Reflecting his light hearted nature, and his desire to be a good role-model. This endeared him to his friends and family.
Professionally, Mark dedicated 37 years of his life to BellSouth and AT&T. His passion for work forged enduring relationships both within and outside the office.
Marks legacy lives on not just in memories, but in the values he imparted. He constantly reassured his loved ones with his steadfast mantra, “We got this…”
Mark is survived by his Wife: Susan Hughes, Son: Hunter Hughes, Daughter: Hayley Hughes, Godson: Brenton Mills, Sister: Trini Hughes, Brother, Brian Hughes (Kelly), Nieces and Nephews, and Brother and Sister-in-Laws.
A visitation for Mark will be held Thursday, December 21, 2023 from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM at First United Methodist Church of Tucker, 5095 Lavista Rd, Tucker, GA 30084, followed by a funeral service from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM.
