Dorothy Rutledge Pickett, age 89 of Cleveland, Tennessee, formerly of Stone Mountain, Georgia died June 6, 2017. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Addison Rutledge and Eula Sharpton Rutledge, her beloved son, John Douglas (Doug) Pickett, brothers Edmond Rutledge and Jack Rutledge, sisters, Bertie (Polly) Austin, Anne Rutledge, Alice Clark, Montine Parton, Margaret Hammond, and Geneva Mitchell.
Survivors include, her loving husband of 70 years, John (Jack) C. Pickett, Jr., daughter Sherry Pickett Shaw and son-in-law Benny Shaw of Cleveland, Tennessee, daughter-in-law Dee Pickett of Lawrenceville, Georgia. Grandchildren Mindi and Mark Duncan, Shay Nix, Josh and Amanda Nix all of Cleveland, Tennessee, Clete Pickett and Chad Pickett of Lawrenceville, Georgia. Great grandchildren, Shaw Gamble, Jackson Gamble, Kyleigh Nix and Tori Nix all of Cleveland, Tennessee. Sister Becky Summerour (Dan Summerour) of McDonough, Georgia. Many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was retired from DeKalb County Adult Probation Office and from the Department of Corrections for the State of Georgia, having served for 35 years. She was the first female Adult Probation Officer appointed for the State of Georgia and retired as Chief Probation Officer for DeKalb County.
She was a member of the Mount Carmel Christian Church where she taught Bible School in the Children's Department for 40 plus years.
Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on Monday, June 12th from 6-8 p.m. at Floral Hills Funeral Home, 3150 Lawrenceville Highway, Tucker, GA 30084. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at 11 a.m., Mount Carmel Christian Church with Dan Garrett officiating. Burial will immediately follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens, Tucker, GA.
