A Life Dedicated to Public Service and Family

It is with heavy hearts, yet profound gratitude for a life well lived, that the Davis Family announces the passing of Cecil George Davis, former Deputy Mayor of Montego Bay, Jamaica. He passed away peacefully on Friday, September 20, 2024, in Plantation, Florida. Cecil leaves behind a legacy of integrity, leadership, and inspiration.

Much of Cecil’s life was devoted to public service, but it was his unwavering dedication to family—both blood and chosen—which truly captures the essence of who he was. Cecil cultivated a home overflowing with faith, love, laughter, and a passion for making a difference in the world. His sense of family reached far beyond his relatives, embracing a close-knit circle of friends and community members.

Cecil was a successful entrepreneur who owned and operated a thriving tax business, DaTax Accounting Services, in Decatur, Georgia. Upon returning to Jamaica, Cecil championed tirelessly for social justice and community development. During his tenure as Deputy Mayor of Montego Bay, Jamaica, and Councilor of Somerton, Jamaica, (where he grew up), Cecil led transformative efforts to improve local infrastructure and expand community programs, gaining deep respect and admiration from colleagues and constituents alike.

Cecil’s influence reached well beyond the realm of government. He was a firm believer in the power of collaboration and had a gift for uniting diverse voices to drive meaningful change. He founded the Atlanta Jamaican Association alongside dear friends and partnered with health professionals and churches in the United States to bring much-needed medical supplies and services to rural areas of Jamaica. In addition, he invested in young adults by mentoring and sponsoring their educational pursuits.

Cecil George Davis will be remembered for his dedication to public service. He is survived by his wife, Patcena Medley-Davis; daughter, Dacia Davis; son, Cyval Clarke; grandchildren, Arielle Howard and Tajae Clarke; siblings, Kingsley Davis and Ivory Richards; nieces, nephews, and dear friends he considered family. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Muriel McLennon-Davis and John Davis, brother, Lloyd Drummond and cherished relatives.
