Barb was beautiful, stylish, genuine, friendly and very outgoing. These attributes led to her being successful in local beauty pageants and provided her the opportunity as a teen to travel and represent the world famous Claxton Fruitcake Company. Barb was an avid golfer and tennis player with a strong will and fierce competitive streak which she also carried over to the poker table. Her calmer pursuits included developing lovely flower gardens to complement her yard and spending time with her beloved beagles. Barb loved to socialize and was often the silly one in the crowd. She was a loving, giving, compassionate wife and mother. Barb contributed to the community by often purchasing clothing and Christmas gifts for foster children. In response to a call from her niece she led a fundraising drive to purchase beds for a local animal shelter. Barb's love of animals ensured no animal in that shelter was without a bed. Her love and compassion touched many in both the human and animal world.
Barb is preceded in death by her parents Herbert and Alma Boyd; siblings Herbert D. Boyd Jr., Charles "TJ" Boyd, Robert "Bobby" Boyd, Alleen Barnard, Lorene Deal and Joann Crosby. She is survived by her loving husband of 38 years, Jim Hickman, her cherished daughter Candace Quinn and her partner Lynn Pilkinton; numerous nieces and nephews as well as nieces Judy Jordan and Catherine Ward who grew up as sisters to Barb.
Visitation for Barbara will be held Thursday March 24, 2022 from 12:00 PM - 2:00pm with chapel service at 2:00pm. Graveside service to follow.
